Richard S. Epter, M.D. has served Augusta and the surrounding areas since 2000. He founded the Augusta Pain Center in 2001. Dr. Epter is the only Interventional Pain Physician in the area with 5 Pain Board Certifications and Board Certification in Anesthesiology. Dr. Epter is also a Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine and helps train Fellows in Pain Management that visit the Pain Center. Distinguished visitors from the United States and as far as the Middle East have come to observe Dr. Epter. He is a nationally and internationally recognized Pain Physician, frequently lecturing and teaching other pain physicians across the United States and abroad. He has multiple peer reviewed publications in the field of Interventional Pain Management. Dr. Epter is also very involved in state and national Pain Societies. He is Past President of the Georgia Society of Interventional Pain Physicians and current Chairman of the Board. He has served on the National Guidelines Committee for the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians and as a Board Examiner for the World Institute of Pain.

In March of 2010, Dr. Epter opened the Epicenter, a multidisciplinary facility including the Augusta Pain Center, AP Surgery Center, Epicenter Aquatic Therapy, and physical therapy (provided by Georgialina Physical Therapy). The Epicenter is the culmination of a life-long dream of Dr Epter to provide the best chronic pain management care in a state-of-the-art facility.
